Sport in Ukraine

                                                                                                
Subject: Sport in Ukraine.



Objectives: - to systematize lexical materials on the topic;

    • to practice the active vocabulary of the topic;
    • to develop speaking, reading, writing skills through various activities;
    • to present new grammar;
    • to develop students’ thinking, memory, imagination, attention and creativeness.

Aids: pictures of different sports, multimedia presentation.

                                                 PROCEDURE

I. Greetings.

    • Good afternoon, boys and girls. Nice to meet you at our English lesson.

    • First let’s discus some organization questions. Next year we are waiting very important and interesting event in world’s sport life such as European Games of 2012. The team of our country will take part in these competitions. I offer to make a competition in today’s lesson; this competition will be intellectual but not sports. We have a basket of gold, silver and bronze medals our group divided into two teams. Who will have the most medals will be the winner of our competitions.

    • First of all I offer the captains to introduce their team (they call team’s name, show the emblem and give the content team the cards with the motto which the contents have to guess).  (They get first medals).

II. Warming up.

    • Open your dairies and write down your homework: P.B. Ex.3 p. 56-57

    • Open your copybooks and write down today’s date. Let’s write the motto of our lesson. Be fit! Sport is good for you!

    • Look at the screen you can see different sports there, call them.
III. Main part.


Activity 1

     Look at the screen we have some words with missing letter. Your task is to write the right words  and name the missing letter. 

(sw…mming, tenni…, winds…rfing, f…tball, k…rate, a…robics, volle…ball, basketb…ll, j…do, cy…ling, s…ateboar…ing, at…letics)

Activity 2

    • Do we ‘play football’, ‘go football’ or ‘do football’? (play football):
    • We use play with the ball games.
    • We use go with sports ending in -ing.
    •  We use do with other sports.

 Look at the screen let’s divide sports into three columns (swimming, tennis, windsurfing, football, karate, aerobics, volleyball, basketball, judo, cycling, skateboarding, athletics)

Activity 3

- Use the pictures on your tables to make sentences what sports do you and your friends like. (I like to play basketball, my friend likes to go swimming.). Use the screen to help you.

    Read the sentences and translate the in aloud saying time of the action (певний термін відбування, або час початку дії). Make up your summary:

Лексико-граматична гра “Bingo”

Кожна команд отримує набір великих та маленьких карток: обраний групою ведучий – набір маленьких карток, інші учні – по великій картці. Ведучій бере по одній маленькій картці у довільному порядку і запитує “ Have you ever done| gone | played ..?, використовуючи назву зображеного виду спорту. Учень , у якого є цей вид спорту на великій картці, відповідає, використовуючи подану на ній інформацію, і перекреслює відповідний малюнок.

III. Summary of the lesson.

- Now let’s summarize the results of our competitions. Count your medals. The winner of today’s lesson is …

- But our competitions had real aims and I would like you summarize them too using this table:
